700 Wins

Coach Bob Schnure has achieved a distinctive milestone in his or any coach's career.  Bob, coach of the DHS East Girls' Basketball team, has guided his teams on to victory more than 700 times.  Bob has been a coach for 31 years, first with DHS teams and then DHS East in 2003.  For more on this story, read this Philadelphia Inquirer article.


Tweeting Homework

Vince Trombetta, the curriculum leader for the Social Studies department, is currently piloting an initiative to use Twitter to inform students who were absent about what they need to make up while they were out and to reinforce what was done in class for the other students. Tweets are  being sent to student cell phones, so they are receiving the tweets as a text message.  So far there has been positive feedback from the students about receiving tweets about what is happening in class.
 

Chess Tournament Director

Mark Wood, the enrichment teacher at Springton Manor is now a certified Chess Tournament Director at the team level.  He can now run large sanctioned tournaments of 125 players, assist in State Level Tournaments, and help train other chess tournament directors.   Mark is one of six local directors in the Philadelphia region.  This certification also requires a director to be an active player.  Mark  has achieved permanent rating over 1000 with 35 or more games.


Composing Honors

West Bradford music teacher Valerie Crescenz composed "Play the Dreidel Game".  Her composition was performed in the Uwchlan Hills, Brandywine Wallace, East Ward, Pickering Valley (among others) holiday concerts.  Lyricist is Herb Frombach who lives in our district.  This piece was an "Editor's Choice" selection by J.W. Pepper, the biggest music distributor in the country. 

 

Carnegie Hall
On Thursday, December 2, 2010 Tim Kautsky (violin student of Carrie Thorpe), Carrie Thorpe (strings teacher at Lionville Middle and Downingtown East), Danielle Cullen (general music teacher at East Ward) and Bradford Heights strings teacher Heather Seigfried will be performing at Carnegie Hall in NYC! 

 

christine.jpgChristine Petrow in our business office is the first candidate in Pennsylvania to complete the requirements necessary to earn PASBO's Certificate of Enhanced Qualification in all 10 areas major operational areas, such as Budgeting, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Transportation, and Finances. 

 

 

 

 

 

Jane Schultz, IST teacher at Brandywine Wallace Elementary School, received the "Jane Dulin Service Award" from the Chester County Reading Association on Saturday, September 25 during a workshop at the CCIU.   This service award is presented every two even calendar years.
