A MESSAGE TO THE COMMUNITY
Thank you for visiting the “Negotiation Update” section of our website. Establishing a contract between the Downingtown Area School District and the Downingtown Area Education Association is one of the biggest financial responsibilities we have as School Board members. The terms of a settlement will dictate a majority of our budgetary expenses in the years ahead. As such, we are doing everything we can to arrive at a contract that is respectful to teachers and mindful of the economic pressures we face as a district.
Downingtown Area School District, like most other school districts, is facing a host of unprecedented financial challenges. The poor economy, taxing restrictions and the current Pennsylvania retirement fund crisis have resulted in a significant decrease in revenues and an insurmountable increase in expenses.
The “Negotiation Update” section has been created to provide the community with a clearer understanding of all the factors the School Board must consider when determining the best way to allocate our funds in a manner that supports the needs of our students, our teachers and our taxpayers.
