 Art Campbell

Mr. Campbell has eight years of classroom teaching, one and a half years as a Central Office Administrator, and four years as Assistant Principal of DHS East. He has a great depth of knowledge in the STEM fields, having served as the district’s Math and Science supervisor from January 2007 through July 2008.

Before coming to Downingtown in January 2007, Mr. Campbell was a physics and mathematics teacher in the Eastern Lancaster County and Radnor Township School Districts. He holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Gwynedd Mercy College and a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, and Secondary Education from Bloomsburg University. He is currently enrolled at Drexel University in the Educational Leadership and Management EdD program.

 Dean of Curriculum &
 Michael Sheehan

Mr. Sheehan's dedication to the Academy started with his involvement with the STEM planning committee, acting on the Curriculum and Programming sub-committees. Prior to joining the STEM faculty, he taught Physics and Introduction to Chemistry and Physics for eight years. Mr. Sheehan’s role at West not only included teaching physics, but he also served as an advisor to the LINK group and as a Math and Science Tutor after school.

Mr. Sheehan graduated in 2002 from Bloomsburg University with a B.S.Ed in Physics Education. He earned his M.Ed in Science Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University in 2009 and a Graduate Certificate in Principalship in 2012. He is certified in Mathematics and Physics. Prior to becoming the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction, he taught 9th Grade Physics, IB Physics, and Forensics here at the Academy.

 Zachary Ruff

Mr. Ruff has been a teacher at Downingtown East High School for ten years. During this time he taught Advanced Placement European History and most recently the new Advanced Placement Psychology course. During his tenure at DEHS, Mr. Ruff served as the Building Leader for Social Studies as well as several years as the Social Studies Curriculum Leader.

He is currently in the final stages of his Doctoral dissertation at Drexel University, in their Educational Leadership and Management program, and hopes to complete his research this academic year. Mr. Ruff received his Principal Certification from Penn State Great Valley’s campus, a Masters degree from Neumann University and his undergraduate work was done in his home state of Vermont.

 Buck Jones

Buck Jones brings a broad range of experience to the STEM Academy. He has 8 years of classroom teaching experience (Mathematics, Philosophy, AP Computer Science) and over 20 years in the Downingtown Area School District, serving in a variety of educational technology capacities (Computer Coordinator, Director of Technology, Educational Technology Leader). In the private sector, he was a database programmer for Towers Perrin in Philadelphia. He was also Youth Pastor and Director of Education in a local church, West Chester, PA. In his current position, he serves on the administrative team at the STEM Academy as the IB CAS/EE Supervisor and the Knowledge Commons Manager.

He is a strong proponent of lifelong learning. He has degrees and certificates from West Chester University (Mathematics), Westminster Theological Seminary (Theology), Harvard University (Moral Philosophy & Adolescent Development), Lehigh University (AP Computer Science), Marywood University (Instructional Technology), and Penn State University (eLearning Instructional Design). Currently, he is completing his Principal Certification at Penn State.

 Susan Boardman

Susan Boardman is the Internships and Partnerships Leader at the Downingtown STEM Academy.  Her twenty years of business development experience, ten of which have been in Chester County, include a financial services firm, architectural firm, and a major manufacturer.

Susan developed strong alliances within the business community through extensive involvement working with the Business Education Partnership at the Exton Chamber of Commerce; Youth Leadership Committee at the Chester County Chamber of Commerce; Leadership Council of the American Red Cross  and the STEM Advisory Board.  She started a local business networking group, G3, which stands for Give, Gain & Grow, a networking group with a social conscience.  She has actively participated with the 21st Century Project for Downingtown Area School District, and was a 2011 leadership speaker for the GETT Program, Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology.  Susan has a B.S. from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio starting her educational journey majoring in architecture.
